Service Learning in Middle School
Service Learning is a form of experieintial education where learning occurs through a cycle of action and reflection as students work with others through a process of applying what they are learning to community problems and, at the same time, reflecting upon their experience as they seek to achieve real objectives for the community and deeper understanding and skills for themselves. The Bible tells us, 'I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.' Matthew 25:40
8th Grade: Largo Landing Fellowship House
Our 8th grade students have teamed up to help the Largo Landing Fellowship House.
Largo Landing Fellowship House
1077 Largo Road
Upper Marlboro, MD 20774
Our students will have the opportunity to brighten the day of a senior citizen sending note & cards of encouragement, adopting-a grandparent, vistiting during the holidays, and assisting in the care and clean up of the facilities.
7th grade: Project Clean Stream
Seventh grade students have selected Project Clean Stream for their service learning partner.
Project Clean Stream
These students will have the opportunity to start by cleaning up a stream right here on the RBS property. We plan to pick up trash, plant trees and shrubbery that strengthen the stream and participate in the annual Project Clean Streem event scheduled for April 4, 2009.
6th grade: RECYCLE
Our sixth graders will partner with several organizations to head-up the recycling efforts right here at Riverdale Baptist School.
We plan to create collection sites to recycle items such as paper, plastic, ink-cartridges, cell-phones, etc.
