MISSION STATEMENT

Riverdale Baptist School exists for the purpose of providing the opportunity for our students to develop a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, and to receive a Christ-centered, biblically-based education.

GRADING & RANKING

Riverdale Baptist School has adopted the following grading scale to measure achievement:

Ranking is determined by the scholar with the highest grade point average to the hundredth of a point. The terminal passing grade is a D.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

In addition to athletic options, Riverdale scholars can participate in a variety of clubs, such as the Creative Journaling Club, the Missions Club, Yearbook Club (grades 9-11), Gaming Club, Cybersecurity Club, and the Debate Team (for male students) during the second semester.

ACHIEVEMENTS

Riverdale is an Amazon Future Engineers school (AFE), which gives our scholars access to the Project STEM computer science curriculum and other digital pathways.

FINE ARTS PROGRAM

Scholars who love creative expression have opportunities to grow in areas of performance as well. Concert band, symphonic band, and choirs are available. The fine arts department performs during fall and spring concerts in all three schools. There are also theatre arts productions for budding actors, actresses, and technical/stage support.

ATHLETIC PROGRAM

Riverdale’s athletic program is approved by the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) and our scholars also participate in the Maryland Independent School Athletic League (MISAL). RBS offers a rich tradition of athletic excellence and competitive interscholastic sports programs. Many RBS scholar athletes receive athletic and academic scholarships all over the country with a variety of them signing professional contracts. RBS currently has 5 alumni playing in the NFL and 6 playing in the WNBA.

COMMUNITY INFORMATION

Riverdale is in Prince George’s County, one of the state’s fastest growing counties, with more than 950,000 residents. Upper Marlboro is a close-knit suburban community of more than six hundred residents and is comprised of a mix of single-family homes in subdivisions and rural farmland. It is the gateway to our nation’s capital, which is approximately twenty miles away, and has numerous historical sites.

SCHOOL BACKGROUND

Riverdale Baptist School, a ministry of Riverdale Baptist Church, was established in 1971 and enjoys a great reputation for preparing students academically, socially, and spiritually. High School enrollment is between 150 and 175.

FACULTY

Faculty are dedicated Christians who have a calling to minister in Christian education. They have earned degrees from a number of reputable colleges and universities across the nation, and 40% hold master’s degrees or beyond.

ACADEMIC PROGRAM

We offer a college preparatory curriculum with honors and advanced placement courses to academically-qualified students. Approximately 55% of the student body maintains a 3.0 or above grade point average. The Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT) is held annually to tenth and eleventh graders, as well as optional standardized assessments, such as the SAT School Day and PSAT for eighth and ninth graders. Moreover, RBS has an active chapter of the National Christian Honor Society.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

In order to graduate, Riverdale scholars need:

  • Four (4) Bible credits*
  • Four (4) English credits
  • Four (4) Mathematics credits
  • Three (3) Science credits
  • Three (3) Social Studies credits + Psychology
  • Two (2) Foreign Language credits
  • One (1) Technology credit
  • Satisfactory Senior Capstone Project
  • One hundred (100) service learning hours

*Bible credits are waived if the scholar has transferred from a public school.

Upon completion, Riverdale scholars receive a college-preparatory diploma.

COLLEGE ATTENDANCE HISTORY

Post-Pandemic, Riverdale scholars have still reached their post-secondary goals with an average of $3,000,000 for one or more years of schooling. Ninety-seven percent (97%) of our scholars attend four-year institution, and three percent (3%) attend two-year institutions or other pursuits. We also have students who progress to the military, technical careers, and real estate training.
